One-Third Of American Families Can't Afford Diapers — But You Can Help

Imagine not being able to afford diapers for your child.

In America today, one in three families struggle with diaper need.

One in three.

“Diaper need” is the lack of sufficient supply of diapers to keep a child clean, dry, and healthy. Without diapers, children cannot participate in early childhood education programs. Without childcare, parents can’t go to work. Most childcare centers require parents to supply a day’s worth of diapers. It’s a huge problem — but one that we can all help resolve.

Huggies has been working to resolve the problem of diaper need for years. In 2010, the company became the founding sponsor of the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) and has since donated more than 200 million diapers and wipes. In honor of Diaper Need Awareness Week, they’re making it easier for all of us to pitch in.

If you use Huggies diapers, you probably already have the Huggies Rewards app, but it’s easy and free to download if you don’t. Once you have the app, you simply need to go to “Redeem Points” and select “Donate diapers to babies in need.” Your rewards points can easily go to help families who need them most.

There’s another way you can help, right from your phone. This week, every time you tweet using the hashtag #NoBabyUnhugged, Huggies will donate diapers to Baby2Baby, part of the NDBN.

The National Diaper Need Network has so many resources to help you help others. Simply spreading the word is golden. How many moms do you know who have kids who’ve grown out their diapers? You can donate your leftover diapers to a diaper bank, even if the package is open, just make sure the diapers are in the original packaging. Just visit the National Diaper Bank Network and look for a diaper bank program and drop-off point near you. And you can share this information in your Facebook mom groups — many moms have no idea donating open packages is even an option.
