Kelly Clarkson Had An Ovarian Cyst Burst While Filming 'The Voice'

Kelly Clarkson is basically the superhero of medical emergencies

If you have ever experienced the hell that is a bursting ovarian cyst, you are well aware that it is no joke. In fact, some women — actress Kate Beckinsale included — even end up in the hospital due to the painful medical condition. Recently, Kelly Clarkson joined the ruptured ovarian cyst club, only she experienced her medical emergency while she was filming The Voice on live television.

In the new issue of People magazine, Clarkson reveals that it all went down just a week after she was hospitalized for a burst appendix during the live taping of the Billboard Awards. You know, that time where she hosted the whole show and continued to belt out numerous hits on live television while she was suffering a major medical crisis. After her performance she underwent an emergency surgery, but managed to bounce back like a badass a week later to film The Voice.

However, during the taping of the hit show, she realized something wasn’t right. “Blake [Shelton] was talking to me and all of the sudden, everything he said just went away and I had to grab his arm and I was like, ‘Something is wrong,’” she revealed to People.

It wasn’t until later that she realized a giant cyst was exploding on her ovaries, something that “had never happened” in her life — and “was more painful than the appendicitis,” she continued. “It was literally a week after my surgery so I was freaking out!”

Like Beckinsale, Clarkson ended up at the hospital. “I was hysterically laughing and crying at one point in the E.R. like ‘What is happening?’” she says. Luckily, she made a full recovery. “I’m great now. I’m totally great now,” she concluded.

In case you have yet to experience a ruptured ovarian cyst, according to WebMD, symptoms can include the following:

– Sharp and sudden cramping below the belly button; the exact location of the cramping is partly determined by the location of the cyst

– Spotting or bleeding

– Prior to the rupture, you may experience pain/pressure in your lower stomach region, thighs, or lower back

If you think you might be experiencing one, you should probably not follow Clarkson’s lead by going ahead with your day. Call your doctor ASAP and see what they advise.

Clarkson has long-since achieved superhero status in our hearts and minds. This has to do with to the fact that she is an overachieving singer and entertainer as well as a kick-ass devoted mom and overall awesome human. But the fact that she has managed to let the show go on, not during one, but TWO major medical emergencies in a row, gives her next-level status. I mean, seriously, how does she do it?
