What’s not to love about the iconic 1999 film 10 Things I Hate About You? The rom-com flick put several actors on the map including Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Gabrielle Union. The teen film gave us unforgettable scenes that still get hit us square in the feels, like when Ledger sang “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” while dancing through the bleachers as the school’s marching band glided across the football field. It also gifted viewers with one-liners we still quote to this day, like “I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?” And none know the impact the film made on viewers more than Union, who recently took to TikTok to recreate the aforementioned one-liner with none other than her 13-year-old stepdaughter, Zaya Wade.

In the TikTok posted yesterday, Union opens the video saying, “Tell us you’ve watched 10 Things I Hate About You without telling us you watched 10 Things I Hate About You.”

“We’ll start,” Zaya adds.

That’s when the real magic happens. Zaya takes on the role of Chastity Church, played by her mom, and Union takes on the role of her best friend in the film, Bianca Stratford, originally played by Larisa Oleynik.

“I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?” Zaya as Chastity asks Union.

“I think you can in Europe,” Union responds.

“Right…” Zaya ends the adorable recreation.

Union and her husband, Dwyane Wade, are parents to four children, including Zaya; Kaavia, 2; Zaire, 19; and Xavier, 7. Zaya came out as transgender last year, and Union and Wade have been nothing but her biggest and best supporters.

“It’s beautiful to watch truly free children,” Union said last year. “We have another daughter who is 13 who has the freedom to be exactly who she is, who she was born to be, to be her most authentic self. She doesn’t ask permission to exist. That is wildly inspiring.”

This isn’t the first time Union’s taken us all on a stroll down cinematic memory lane, either.

Last week, Union took to TikTok to deliver yet another iconic line from yet another one of her iconic teen films: Bring It On.

Union, who starred as Isis in the film that celebrated its 20-year anniversary in August, started the Tiktok video in a similar fashion, telling viewers, “Tell me you’ve watched Bring It On without telling me you’ve watched Bring It On. I’ll go first.”

“I said, ‘Brr, it’s cold in here. There must be some Toros in the atmosphere? Bitch, I know you didn’t think a white girl made that up?” Union flawlessly delivered. Of course, true fans know Isis doesn’t actually say the word “bitch” in the film, but Union said she added it for “kicks and giggles.”

Released March 31, 1999, 10 Things I Hate About You celebrates its 22nd anniversary this month — and, honestly, we can hardly believe it. And the only way we know how to celebrate it is to watch the rom-com for the 412th time this weekend. And you absolutely should, too. (Followed by Bring It On, of course.)
