Captain Kate McCue perfectly shuts down a grammar-compromised troll by offering up a basic English language tutorial

What is it about online trolls and their ever-present ability to effortlessly slaughter the English language? No matter who or what they’re trolling, it honestly seems as though the majority of hate-fueled comments and rants are flooded with typos, grammatical errors, and the mistaken use of words such as your and you’re and their, there, and they’re. Therefore, we’re now totally obsessed with one cruise captain’s perfect response to a sexist online troll, who opted to use the ignorance of an uneducated, nasty human to give others a much-needed English 101 tutorial.

“How can you be a captain? Your only a woman,” some moronic sexist individual wrote to Celebrity Cruise Lines Captain Kate McCue.

“Normally as I’m scrolling through comments and I see something like this, I totally ignore and move on with my life,” the gorgeous, kick-ass, and intelligent woman explained in a TikTok video. “But I think it’s about high time I address this because it’s 2020.”

That’s right. Just like us, she can’t believe how many people refuse to pay attention to their high school English teachers.

“In this day and age I am shocked that someone still doesn’t know the difference between ‘your’ and ‘you’re,'” she continues.

“A quick reference: ‘you’re’ as in ‘you are’, like ‘you are sexist’. ‘Your’ is something possessive, because it belongs to you, like ‘your ignorance,'” she lashes out.

“But don’t worry, I’m here for you. If you need any more clarification, you can find me here,” she says, sitting down in her boss lady seat. “In my captain’s chair.”

Can you feel the burn?

Her video, which was also shared on Twitter because it is so amazing, garnered a bunch of amazing comments as well as a few nasty ones, because haters gonna hate. One commenter dubbed the takedown “justifiable homicide” while many others were impressed by her “subtle shade.” A handful of people even mentioned that they had the pleasure of sailing the friendly seas with McCue at the helm, dubbing the experience amazing.

But aside from educating ignorant people and shutting them down simultaneously, McCue uses her TikTok account for other purposes — including sharing adorable photos of her hairless cat (who she brilliantly named bugnaked,) saving birds who get trapped out at sea on her ship, and giving people a glimpse at what the inside of a cruise ship looks like during the pandemic.
