Which Zodiac Signs Go Well Together?
Warning: you may have to kiss a few bulls or crabs to find your dream partner.
Have you been looking for love in all the wrong places? Maybe you should look up — as in, to the stars! Perhaps your zodiac compatibility, or incompatibility, is the one thing keeping you from finding your ideal match. Or matches. Which is why we are here to offer you a crash course in astrology love compatibility so you can future out which signs to date.
Here’s the fun part about exploring your zodiac sign compatibility: You’ll find that each sign has more than one potentially sizzling love pairing. Why not give all of your possible matches a shot? To find the person or persons you have the most incredible chemistry with, you may have to kiss a few frogs. Well, to be more accurate, you may have to kiss a few Bulls or Crabs or, you know, you get the picture.
So, in an effort to put you on the path to ultimate zodiac compatibility, we’ve put together a little field-guide to astrology-driven love. Take a look and see which signs you should let slide into your DMs. Before you start choosing romantic partners based solely on our astrological findings, though, remember that there are exceptions to every rule. After all, they didn’t call Romeo and Juliet star-crossed lovers for nothing.
Obviously you shouldn’t just leave affairs of the heart to the stars, which is why we’ve offered additional insights on online dating tips for women, the best cities for single women, what questions to ask a partner, how to get over a breakup, how to handle long-distance relationships, and some relationship red flags you should never ignore, among many others.
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
Oh, Aries! You’re a fiery one. And don’t get us wrong: That makes you exciting and charismatic. It also means it can take a bold personality to keep up with you. You’re impulsive, relentlessly energetic, you feel compelled to compete — you’re exhausting, but in the best way possible.
Fellow fire signs Leo and Sagittarius are good picks. Leo is the life of the party, like you, while Sagittarius shares your openness for adventure. If you want someone who will balance you out, give a Libra a shot. If you want someone who’ll keep you guessing (great for Aries, since you get bored easily), go for a Gemini. And if you’re literally looking for your best friend in a partner, Aquarius won’t disappoint.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
You know what they say — if you mess with the bull, you get the horns. Hey, Taureans are strong-minded individuals. They’re slow to anger but when they get there, watch out. They’re stubborn, too. However, Bulls are also super-hard workers, extremely loyal, and delightfully sensual beings.
While you might not think you’d fit well with a Scorpio, think again. This fierce sign is tough enough to tangle with a Bull and come out on the other side unscathed. Plus, they’re grounded like you are. Same goes for Virgo. On the other hand, maybe you want a more sensual connection. In that case, a Pisces or Cancer might appeal to you. These signs mirror your appreciation for deep emotion, sensitivity and, ahem, satisfaction.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
Thanks to this sign’s dual personality, dating a Gemini can be a bit of a wild ride. Yes, they’re extremely charming and affectionate. They can also be flighty and unreliable.
For that reason, Geminis do well with signs that ground them (and will overlook their sporadic energy for their magnetism), like the fixed water sign Scorpio. Still, even that pairing can be tumultuous due to Gemini’s dualism. Other strong pairing possibilities are Aries, Aquarius, and Libra. Aries will keep Geminis on their toes. Aquarians are, let’s be real, just as all over the place as Geminis. And Libras will lap up the affection Geminis offer.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
While Cancers are one of the most loyal creatures in the zodiac, that loyalty doesn’t come without a few conditions. For starters, Crabs can be quite jealous. They’re incredibly sensitive. They’re homebodies who crave the comforts of routine and familiarity. This great big emotional package is wonderful but takes a certain fortitude to navigate.
So, let’s start with Pisces. A fellow water sign, Pisces shares Cancer’s emotional nuance. It wouldn’t be surprising for a Fish and a Crab to fall head over heels almost immediately! An instant connection may also be possible with Taurus, as Bulls live for comfort and luxury. Since Cancer lives to nurture, these equally loyal signs can complement each other well. Virgo is a mutable sign, so they can conform to fit Cancer’s specific needs. And Scorpio’s intuition and attention to detail help them stay ahead of Cancer’s moods.
Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)
Leos are the life of the party! They’re fun, charming, vibrant and, oh yeah, did we mention flirtatious? Lions also like to rule, so they definitely have the capacity to be demanding. Still, Leos love a good time.
Accordingly, fellow fire signs Aries and Sagittarius make solid matches for the Lion. Because Aries matches Leo’s heat, these two can create an incendiary experience, especially in the bedroom. Sagittarius has a penchant for adventure like Leo, and they’ll do pretty much anything for the one they love. Thus also lies the appeal for Leo in Libra. This sign is more than willing to lavish Leo with attention, which is their favorite thing. If you need someone to keep you in check, give Virgo a chance. Virgos are realists and, face it, that’s what Leos need sometimes.
Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22)
There are earth signs and then there are Virgos. They’re even more intellectual and practical than most. So, if you want to get a Virgo all hot and bothered, you need an excellent conversationalist who also happens to be inherently logical.
Enter, Taurus, and Capricorn. These fellow earth signs share Virgo’s practicality, not to mention dazzling smarts. Cancer comes into the picture because Virgos can be highly self-critical — they do well with a super-loving sign that will remind them of their worth. And while Pisces is Virgo’s opposite, they can also be a wonderful match because they’re helpers at heart (something they actually have in common with Virgo!).
Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)
Calling all no-drama mamas! There’s a lot to love about a Libra. One of the most balanced signs of the zodiac, they tend to be pretty unproblematic. They also have excellent taste — they’re arbiters of style and beauty. This doesn’t mean they’re totally compatible with everyone, though. Libras are also epic flirts and so confident that it’s intimidating for some signs.
Leos love the finer things in life, and that aligns quite lovely with Libras. Leos are also showboats, which Libras don’t mind as long as that doesn’t lead to too much drama. Overall, though, Leo is an exciting sign for Libra to be around. Libras will also gravitate toward Sagitattarians, who are dynamic and fun. And speaking of fun, Aquarius and Libra make for a light connection. Because you both want to be best friends, it’s a slow burn but one that can be exactly what Libra needs.
Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)
One of the fiercest signs of the zodiac, Scorpios are intense. When they set their focus on something, they have an almost unnerving determination to manifest that which they desire. So, uh, you can read between the lines, right? Or, if you need a bigger hint, read between the sheets. That’s right! Scorpios are incredibly dedicated and passionate lovers. This can obviously be a good thing, but Scorpios need other signs that are overwhelmed by their intensity (in and out of the bedroom).
Not surprisingly, one of the signs most adept at handling Scorpio is Scorpio. Two Scorpios will feed off of each other’s energy but, word of caution, communication can fall by the wayside. Fellow water signs Cancer and Pisces aren’t afraid to lean into Scorpio’s strong energy, either. A Crab and a Scorpion together can prove to be a particularly deep connection. They have a similar tough exterior paired with unparalleled emotional vulnerability beneath. Perhaps the most surprising (but potentially also best) match for Scorpio is its opposite, Taurus. What these signs share is magnetic sensuality, meaning their physical chemistry is off the charts.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)
Here’s the truth about being around a Sagittarius: You’ll never get bored. This sign is fun, fun, fun — and, okay, maybe tinged with a bit of mischief. But their love for adventure and trying new things makes them one of the most dynamic partners to be with. Of course, this means they have a tendency to get bored quicker than other signs. Their ideal matches are signs that can keep pace with their daredevil attitude or call them on their shit.
Two Sagittarians together? Talk about that couple. You know, the one jetting off to exotic destinations, eating at the trendiest eateries, and generally making the world their oyster. It goes without saying sex between these matching signs is just as, ahem, adventurous. Leo and Aries, also fire signs, fan the flame of Sagittarius’ fascination. Gemini, Aquarius, and Libra may not seem like obvious picks for Sagittarius, but they’re actually great adventure buddies since they all have a laid-back “anything goes” outlook.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)
When you’re dealing with a Capricorn, you can count on one thing — they won’t be a whole lot of nonsense. A pragmatic sign, they’re straight-shooters who crave solid foundations (and strive to establish them throughout their lives). Because of this, they have high standards for themselves as well as the people around them. This level of scrutiny and fastidiousness doesn’t sit well with every sign.
If you guessed that other earth signs are probably the best fit for Capricorn, you’d be right. Organized Virgo appeals to Capricorn’s inherent efficiency. Taureans mirror Capricorns’ love of the finer things in life but, more importantly, the willingness to work hard to get them. Bonus? Taurus is the most sensual sign, and Capricorns like to let loose in the bedroom. It’s like a pleasure party. Pisces is a very malleable sign, so they aren’t put off by Capricorn’s occasional rigidity. And Cancer, although Capricorn’s zodiac opposite, can help Capricorn build the safe and stable home they want.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)
Who hasn’t fallen for an Aquarius at some point? Progressive, quirky, creative, smart — Aquarians can be pretty irresistible. As alluring as Aquas are, though, the very things that make them so attractive can make them difficult to date. Love that they focus so much on the big picture? Us, too. Until we’re in a relationship with one and realize that their tunnel vision sometimes means they treat romantic interests like roomies. And don’t even try to infringe on their independence (aka they need space!).
Dating an Aquarian might be best left to other freedom-loving air signs like Gemini and Libra. These signs believe in unfettered independence and separate togetherness, music to an Aqua’s ears. Fire signs can also make sense, as they understand Aquarians’ uniqueness. This is especially true of Aries, who is just as self-sufficient. Leo can be a tougher sell since they need a lot of attention.
Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20)
Let us preface what we’re about to say with this: Pisces is one of the sweetest signs. They’re excellent at picking up on other people’s auras and moods. There are myriad reasons to want to be in the company of a Pisces. Having said that, Pisces can be a bit high-maintenance in relationships — don’t shoot the messenger! In Pisces’ defense, this high-maintenance reputation is driven largely by the fact they’re the most sensitive, empathetic sign of the zodiac. They’ve got a lot of feelings.
The other water signs, Scorpio and Cancer, can also walk on land. This means that in addition to sharing similar sign traits, they can ground Pisces in an organic way. Although Virgo is Pisces’ opposite sign, the fact that they’re so generous and kind can be a huge plus in Pisces’ book. And Taurus isn’t quite as into their feelings as Pisces, but they are just as enamored with intimacy.
