Sansa Stark Is Not Here For Whiny Fans Who Want A GoT Season 8 Redo
Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark in the epic series, called the petition ‘disrespectful’
If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you know there has been much debate over how the final season of the show went down. There have been years of conspiracy theories and much conversing about who would sit on the Iron Throne and how the characters would rise (or fall) accordingly. Some fans were so irate they actually started a petition for HBO to rewrite Season 8, and as you can imagine, cast members like Sophie Turner were less than pleased.
The petition, which was started on Change.org, called on HBO to rewrite the season, saying in part, “This series deserves a final season that makes sense.” It’s been signed by over 1.4 million folks who believe they didn’t get what they’d hoped for and want another shot. But Turner was quick to point out the issues a petition of this nature can cause.
In a post-finale interview with The New York Times, Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark, called out fans who would challenge the beloved creators and stars who’d given them ten years of their lives.
“All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season,” Turner said. “Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”
Turner went on to say she wasn’t surprised people had feelings about the ending because they have been so invested that fans somehow feel they could have done a better job. “People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish,” the actress continued. “So when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel.”
It’s nearly impossible for fans of any show to agree with its ending. Whether it was Seinfeld, Dexter, Lost, or How I Met Your Mother, fans will always find reasons to complain. In reality, it’s impossible to wrap an entire series in a perfect bow where all fans will be happy with the outcome, so unless you want to tackle writing and producing a cult-classic like Game of Thrones, it’s probably best to just leave it alone and be thankful for all the show gave to us.
Turner added, “The thing about ‘Game of Thrones’ that’s always been amazing is the fact that there’s always been crazy twists and turns, right from Season 1 with Ned’s beheading. So Daenerys becoming something of the Mad Queen — it shouldn’t be such a negative thing for fans. It’s a shock for sure, but I think it’s just because it hasn’t gone their way.”
Preach Sansa. We’re just happy you became the Queen you were always meant to be — on and off the screen.
