Kamala Harris Grilling Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh Is Everything
Kamala Harris has exactly no time for Brett Kavanaugh’s question-dodging nonsense
It’s Day 3 of Brett Kavanaugh’s Senate confirmation hearings for a spot on the Supreme Court and so far, he’s not coming off very well. Aside from his terrifying beliefs on guns and a woman’s right to choose, there’s his highly publicized snub of a Parkland dad and now, his extremely uncomfortable questioning (for him) by none other than Senator Kamala Harris. AKA, my hero.
Harris had approximately zero minutes nor shits to give during her grilling of Kavanaugh yesterday and she got right to the point — Mueller. During an 8-minute exchange between the two, Harris zeroed in on her target. And bro completely choked.
Harris asked Kavanaugh a very pointed question, whether he’d “ever discussed special counsel Mueller or his investigation with anyone.”
Let the squirming commence.
“Well it’s in the news every day…” he stammered. She asked again — and frankly, that was very charitable since her first try was clear as crystal. This time he replied, “With other judges I know.” Harris then asked if Kavanaugh had discussed Mueller’s probe with anyone at Kasowitz Benson Torres, the New York City law firm founded by President Trump’s personal attorney Marc Kasowitz.
“I’m not remembering, but I’m happy to be refreshed or if you want to tell me who you’re thinking of,” Kavanaugh answered.
LOL. She did not want to.
“You’ve been speaking for almost eight hours to this committee about all sorts of things you remember,” Harris said. “How can you not remember whether or not you had a conversation about Robert Mueller or his investigation with anyone at that law firm?”
*whispers* He can.
But of course, he continued trying to dodge the question, and Harris was absolutely not having it. “I think you are thinking of someone, and you don’t want to tell us,” she said.
That’s when Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah tried swooping in to valiantly defend Kavanaugh, which set off a whole series of events including talk about rabbits, law firms, and a few female protestors being escorted from the hearings. Then, Harris was forced to move on in the proceedings but not before telling Kavanaugh it’s because he’s “clearly” not planning to answer the question.
Today, the nominee seemed a bit more confident of his past convos with the firm in question. “I don’t recall any conversations of that kind with anyone at that law firm,” Kavanaugh said, after having a day to think it over. “I haven’t had any inappropriate conversations about that investigation with anyone.”
The law firm also issued a statement to CNN denying Kavanaugh had any chats with anyone from their firm about the probe, but as Harris, a former Attorney of the City of San Francisco and California Attorney General pointed out, “They’re not under oath. The question was asked under oath.”
Boom.
Also? The two had an exchange over a woman’s right to choose, and Kavanaugh again found himself stumbling under Harris’ line of questioning.
“Can you think of any laws that give the government the power to make decisions about the male body?” Harris asked. Of course, he wanted a more specific question, so she clarified, “Male versus female.” Then she said the whole thing over again because clearly, this dude struggles with comprehension. Bodes well for spending a lifetime appointment serving on the highest court in the land, right?
“I’m not thinking of any right now, Senator,” he replied. Because there literally aren’t any.
These hearings are shining a light on what kind of man Brett Kavanaugh is, but it’s also showing the world exactly what kind of woman Kamala Harris is. Hopefully, the latter shows up on the 2020 ballot, because she’d have my vote in a heartbeat.
