Just When We Thought We Couldn't Love Idris Elba More, He Shares His Thoughts On #MeToo
In a recent interview, Idris Elba made us swoon even more than usual with his take on #MeToo
Idris Elba is the perfect man. That’s not hyperbole, and like, come at us — it’s 100 percent true. Not only is he the literal Sexiest Man Alive, he also has the perfect take on fragile Hollywood “men” who feel threatened by the #MeToo movement.
And it’s literally the only take that matters.
Mention Idris Elba and basically anyone who’s into men looks something like this.
Add to his overall Idris-ness the fact that he’s respectful, woke, and obviously has nothing to feel worried about when it comes to how he treats female coworkers and other women in his life, and we’re pretty much toast. In an interview with The Sunday Times, the actor was asked if it’s hard to be a man in Hollywood after the sweeping #MeToo movement last year that led to a number of high-profile men being publicly accused of sexual harassment and assault. His reply?
“It’s only difficult if you’re a man with something to hide.”
Not only is that statement beyond hot, it’s also beyond correct. It’s hard to drum up a reason a famous man would be bothered by #MeToo other than he’s terrified of someone speaking out about his past bad actions. Knowing how confident Elba is that no woman could possibly accuse him of anything only makes him sexier.
Also? Other Hollywood men have seriously botched speaking out on the movement, as evidenced by Henry Cavill and Matt Damon’s well-publicized missteps. Elba seamlessly nailed it in a very sincere way.
Also also? This isn’t the first time he’s spoken out positively about #MeToo, and his last public comment on the topic was similarly on point. While promoting the film Molly’s Game, which has a female director and writer, he said “…we’re seeing women stand up and have a liberation movement of speaking up against some their atrocities that has happened.”
We’re not the only ones cheering (and swooning) over Elba’s casual condemnation of terrible men.
His reputation as a decent human is pretty solid.
Nailed it, TBH.
The sad fact is, it shouldn’t be this novel and sexy for a man to speak boldly in favor of treating women like actual humans worthy of respect, but here we are.
Idris, we see you. We appreciate you. While you could easily coast on your looks alone, instead, you’re speaking out for women and reminding us all exactly how a truly sexy man sounds.
The looks are merely a (very welcome) bonus.
