The First Teaser Trailer For 'Toy Story 4' Is Here!
‘Toy Story 4’ hits theaters next summer — and it looks so cute
The first teaser trailer for the much-anticipated fourth installment of the Toy Story franchise is here, and it looks like Toy Story 4 has the usual cast of beloved characters, so get ready for your kids to squeal.
And you too, honestly.
Pixar just released the trailer today, and it’s pretty dreamy and fun, even though it doesn’t really tell much about the plot.
The sneak peak is barely a minute and a half long and set to Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now,” but it’s enough to see that the gang’s all here: Buzz, Woody, Jessie, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, Rex, Slinky Dog, Hamm, the Squeeze Toy Aliens, and… a spork?
That’s right — the newest character in the Toy Story universe is Forky, who appears partway through the trailer yelling, “I don’t belong here! I’m not a toy!”
“Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called ‘Forky’ to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy,” says Pixar in a statement to E! News.
“Like most people, I assumed that Toy Story 3 was the end of the story. And it was the end of Woody’s story with Andy,” the film’s director, Josh Cooley, tells E! News. “But just like in life, every ending is a new beginning. Woody now being in a new room, with new toys, and a new kid, was something we have never seen before. The questions of what that would be like became the beginning of an entertaining story worth exploring.”
So, the new film will follow craft project Forky as he tries to figure out life as both a utensil — and a toy. “The world of Toy Story is built upon the idea that everything in the world has a purpose. A toy’s purpose is to be there for its child. But what about toys that are made out of other objects? Forky is a toy that Bonnie made out of a disposable spork, so he’s facing a crisis,” Cooley says. “He wants to fulfill his purpose as a spork, but now has a new toy purpose thrust upon him.”
He’s made of a literal plastic spork and pipe cleaners along with googly eyes. Emmy Award winner Tony Hale provides the new character’s voice.
Whether you’re a Toy Story trilogy purist annoyed at the new addition that some fans feel isn’t needed or a Pixar fan thrilled with everything they put out, it sounds like the new storyline is pretty stinking cute and one that kiddos will go bonkers for, just like the last three.
The film will be released June 21, 2019.
