Group Sorely In Need Of A Hobby Hands Out Fat-Shaming Cards On Subway

As if commuting on the subway isn’t bad enough, there’s a group of random idiots handing out fat-shaming cards to unsuspecting passengers. Yup. People who are just sitting on the London subway, minding their own business are being handed cards that say “FAT” on the front and this drivel on the back:

“Our organisation hates and resents fat people. We object to the enormous amount of food resources you consume while half the world starves. We disapprove of your wasting NHS money to treat your selfish greed. And we do not understand why you fail to grasp that by eating less you will be better off, slimmer, happy and find a partner who is not a perverted chubby-lover, or even find a partner at all.
“We also object that the beatiful [sic]pig is used as an insult. You are not a pig. You are a fat, ugly human.”

Kara Florish was handed this card on her commute. She posted about it on Twitter:

Florish posted on Facebook about the incident as well:

“I was handed this card this morning on the underground and I would appreciate if people tweeted, posted etc all over the internet. “I am not upset myself. I am smaller than the national average and not exactly obese, but this is hateful and cowardly and could potentially upset people struggling with confidence and eating disorders. Please tweet and share this if you are also outraged. Plus – to the person who wrote this card, go back to school, you can’t spell ‘beautiful’.”

The Guardian reports the card was placed on Florish’s lap by a middle-aged man right before he got off the subway. Another man, Thomas Knox, tweeted about his experience seeing another woman handed a card on the subway:

Oh, sure — there’s not enough awful stuff happening in the world. Why not just travel around making people like utter shit? London Transport police have urged people to come forward if they see anyone handing out the cards. There’s been no confirmation regarding who is involved, but inclusion of the images on a site called Slimgur, which describes itself as “the internet’s premier shitlord image host” has led several sources to speculate. The Guardian explains”Shitlord is internet slang originating from the website Reddit to describe online activists who oppose acceptance of people who are overweight.” It may be the work of people formerly associated with fat-shaming sub-forums that were banned on Reddit after the site’s Chief Executive Ellen Pao tried to get a handle on harassment by cleaning up the site and ridding it of such forums. There will always be miserable jerks out there, unfortunately. But there are also things like this:

And this:

It’s only misery that prompts people to act in such a way. When you think of it that way, you’re just left feeling sorry for these ADULTS who have nothing better to do than make poorly designed pamphlets to cowardly throw at people before running away like misbehaving children.

How pathetic.
