You officially have a 52 week old baby!

Happy Birth Day, Mama!

Your baby is officially a one-year-old! How is that possible? In one year she’s gone from a helpless, snuggly puddle of a person to being an overly opinionated, moving, climbing destructo-machine. Yay!!!

Is your back aching? That’s no surprise; your baby will probably have tripled in weight, grown 50 percent in height, and also learned the art of being stubborn about everything. Toddlerhood — here you come!

You should encourage independence when it comes to things like getting dressed, eating, and getting ready for bed. Pretty soon he’ll be demanding that independence and it’ll take you four hours to get into the car, but that’s just the way it goes. The best parenting advice is to just roll with it.

If you have a pacifier addict, you might want to start the whole excruciating weaning process now. Wait too long and it only gets harder! Start with the daytime hours and gradually work your way up to taking it away at night.

As you celebrate your baby’s birthday, raise a glass to yourself and to your partner: You’ve endured one hell of a year! And put your seatbelt on, mama. You’re in for the ride of your life with toddlerhood!
