Privacy Measures on FaceBook
-
People get concerned sometimes, about sharing information with strangers. (I don't blame them.) One thing you can do to make sure your private information stays private, is learn how to work the security settings on your FaceBook profile.Do you know what strangers can see, just by viewing your profile?Do you have your info set viewable to "public"?Even if you have it set to "friends of friends"--that still means that people you may not know can see you private information.Get familiar with your FaceBook controls, and protect what you are uncomfortable sharing. Please look at the section of your profile "About" or "About Me"
These settings can be changed by clicking the "edit" button, and changing the security level to what ever you are comfortable with.
In other news.....Photo album settings are no longer set individually (except for TimeLine photos and Mobile Uploads. THOSE can still be set individually). Now, the whole album must be set, and applies to all photos contained within that album. Different albums may still have different settings though.

This is so AWESOME thank you @love for doing this!!
-
Bump. Wow, I have been on a lot today & didn't even see this. New threads are getting bumped down fast! Lol! I'm sure somebody on here needs to see this still.
-
Oh thank you so so much for this! It's a huge help!!! :)
-
@Chaosmom LOL With all the traffic, they sure are getting bumped right and left!I'm sure many people (like me) are still just getting the hang of the new controls, since the updates, and the introduction of the TimeLine format.
-
I only get on the fb app on my phone & it still hasn't updated me to timeline yet. I know it will be coming soon enough though.
-
I've had it since the option was first available (total MySpace whore from back in the day, so I'm lovin' it!), but I know it won't even be optional soon! I'm glad I took the option early, so I could play with it and get used to it early on LOL
-
Excellent breakdown, Love! I think it will help a lot of people out.
-
@Hunny you are more than welcome! I hope it helps! There were some issues early that people had, and I thought a picture demonstration was the way to go LOL
-
Totally off topic but my grandmother's maiden name was Barnett @love
-
Oh yeah?? Where's she from @Lifeofchaos? You could be kin to my DH lol
-
I so am gonna stalk you now that I have your phone number @Love. ;)U R who U think U R
"You were the truth I would rather lose than to have never lain beside at all" -
Thanks for the tutorial @Love, I had my FB to private for personal reasons I just went back and made sure unwanted people could not contact me.
-
Funny I should see this LOL I went on FB this morning and blocked the ex and his gf ;P
-
I would also add, that if there's someone on Facebook and you know their name, or can find their profile, whom you SPECIFICALLY do not want to be able to see you AT ALL...you can block them specifically, and it will be like you don't EXIST to each other int he world of FaceBook. They can't see ANYTHING you do, say, post, comment, even if it's on a mutual friend's page. And you won't see them, either. If anyone doesn't know how to do this, let me know.
-
**The opening post of this thread has been modified to reflect updated changes to FaceBook's privacy options.
-
Also I read somewhere that people can have limited temporary accesses to some of your pictures and information if contact has been made and reciprocated via private FB message.
If you don't know the person, and they have a super private page, DO NOT MESSAGE BACK.
-
They've just changed some things with regard to the privacy settings, but thanks for the heads up about the photo albums!Bite me, cupcake!
-
@BellaBefanaThey did. And I think that every time they make changes like that, it is important for people to at least flip through the new settings and make sure everything is set to a level that they are comfortable with.I know in the past when they've made changes, it kinda messed up a few things, and people needed to reset some things.(I'm remembering the FB profile email debacle from last year LOL it just changed everyone's contact email info on their "about" tab to mysername@facebook.com - it was a mess!)
-
I love how FB thinks I'm logging in from Jacksonville, NB.See ya in another life, sister!
-
I don't like the fact that it changed the "Who can send me a message" option...
You can no longer keep random strangers from contacting you. Bleh
-
@WickedDunkieJunkieI HEARD that they also have an experiment in place that would allow people to PAY to have messages sent to your priority inbox...
-
Ok , great info I will learn the how but am lazy and want someone who is more savy over my shoulder
-
Also, there's a newish feature on FB called "followers"... this allows people to sort of like bookmark you, so that they can get updates when you post something. They do NOT have to be friends for this to happen, if you have the follow feature engaged.Check your settings.
