    Earlier, a challenge was issued by @MorganD, and we decided to take it one step further and make it official:


    Welcome to the Scary Mommy Gift-Wrapping Contest!



    To participate: 

    Simply post a photo of your gift-wrapping prowess, 
    and the community will click "like" to vote--easy peasy! 
    The entry with the most "likes" wins!

    The Worst Wrapper in the Universe:

    Same here! Post a photo of your gift-wrapping monstrosity,
    and the community will click "LOL" to vote! 
    The entry with the most "LOLs" wins!

    Rules: 

    Entries must be a photo of a gift that was wrapped this holiday season.
     Entries should contain at least one unconventional wrapping material 
    (check Pinterest for inspiration). 
    Participants may submit as many entries as they like, 
    as long as they are in separate posts, 
    so that they may be voted on individually.

    I used to be paid to wrap gifts ... but of course it was nothing fancy and decorative! Lol. Just neat and pretty.

    And I can't post pics on here from my iPad and don't know how to from my iPhone. Lol

    Yeah, I'm pretty ashamed of my lack of wrapping ability. I have been known to have to use pieces of scrap paper to cover holes so the kids can't see what the gift is. I'd be more likely to place in Chocoholic's contest.

    @shate98 I used to wrap all kinds of craziness at the hardware store I worked at. We sold hardware, small home supplies (cleaning stuff, glasses, toaster ovens...), seasonal stuff and fifty stuff.

    I've wrapped decorative wastebaskets, boogie boards, soccer balls, tools....I was overjoyed when I got to wrap something with square edges.

    lol @MarySunshine I know how you feel. I ran the wrap desk at Williams Sonoma during the xmas season for two years. Not everything comes in a box/fits in a box. Hey wait... should we be excluded from this contest since we both have professional experience? :P

    @shate98 it doesn't have to be an actual present. You could wrap anything you have around the house, or an empty box. As long as it uses one unconventional wrapping item, you're good to go.

    I got home last night with a pile of odd-shaped presents, and my wrapping supplies and was ALL SET to stay up all night making some pretty presents happen.

    And then could not find one scrap of tape in the whole house.

    How does that even happen???

    I was tempted to use my trusty ole silver duct tape, but DH persuaded me to just wait LOL

    I'd have to call for a judge's decision on the details, but personally, I would think ANY element included, other than "normal" wrapping paper and ribbon, would be enough to be considered "unconventional"...

    Some ideas I've heard are:

    • painted or stamped brown parcel paper for wrapping.
    • duct tape
    • twine instead of ribbon
    • cloth strips for ribbon instead of the standard nylon
    • recycled newspaper or magazine or construction paper
    • tissue paper bows
    • homemade ornaments tied into the wrapping
    • regular wrapping paper inside out (like old birthday wrapping paper, used for Christmas instead), painted, drawn on, or otherwise decorated for the holidays

    The list really goes on and on.

    "Conventional" would be regular Christmas wrapping paper from the store, with no added craftiness.
