Having a baby was the scariest thing I’ve ever done. Sure, women have been doing it since Eve pushed out a set of multiples, but that didn’t stop me from seizing in terror in the delivery room. Because like so many expecting women, I had complications. Dire, no. Common, yes. But considering the current climate of declining maternal care, coverage, and education, it is definitely the wrong time to be a pregnant woman with complications.
